Fascial Stretch Therapy FAQ’s
What is fascial stretch therapy (FST)?
An assisted stretching technique designed to gently elongate muscle, connective tissue and fascia as well as restoring joint mobility, improving relaxation and breathing.
Where did your practitioners learn this technique?
All of our practitioners have travelled to Arizona multiple times to learn from the creators of the technique as well as having qualifications in remedial massage and myotherapy.
How is what you do different from chain type stretching studios?
We work from private rooms allowing clients to feel comfortable to discuss issues presented and get into a deeply relaxed state. Our practitioners are certified in an internationally recognised technique with research based methods. We all have qualifications in body work and have a deep understanding of assessment and creating sessions based on individual needs of each client.
Is FST painful?
FST will never be painful, we work in close connection with your nervous system and always are trying to send a message to your body that it’s ok to move into positions which it may not have been able to for years. Pain inhibits this being able to occur and has no therapeutic benefit. The technique is extremely gentle and will never cause pain.
What other techniques do you use in a session?
We may use other techniques in our sessions depending on our clients goals and presenting conditions, these include;
- Active Release Technique – a technique used to create free movement between fascial adhesions in local areas
- Structural Integration – used to assess and correct posture and function by restoring fascial balance
- Remedial Massage – Used to increase blood flow, reduce muscle tension
- Dry needling – Used to release trigger points held in tissue
- Neuro Kinetic Therapy – Used to assess muscle weakness and paired tightness to find the root cause of tightness/ dysfunction
- Graston Technique – Used to release muscle and fascia
What do I need to bring/ wear to a session?
Ideally loose fitting clothing that allows easy movement and access to skin if manual massage/ soft tissue work is required. Like loose pants/ shorts and shirts and sports bras if neck or shoulder access is required.
Who are your typical clients?
Clients with chronic lower back and hip tightness which is effecting their daily lives. They are usually busy with kids and work and lack the time to stretch but know they need to. They have had their issues for many year and tried with minimal success to improve their condition and want to try a different modality.
How often do people see you?
Every client is different and we can discuss in your first session what will work best for you. We understand our clients are busy and often travel long distances to see us.
Typically clients will see us weekly for a few sessions to kickstart movement then will use a combination of ongoing treatment less frequently with at home exercises to keep progress.
Are your services claimable under private health insurance and how much do I get back?
Yes, Dave is covered under Remedial Massage and Sayshie under Myotherapy.
How much you get back will depend on your level of cover and typically ranges from $20-$70 per session, we cannot inform you on amount of the refund, contact your private health insurance and they can inform you on the rebates available.
